About Fancy Free
Fancy Free is a uniquely wonderful five bedroom Victorian summer home located on its own private island on spectacular Big Rideau Lake, a World Heritage Site in eastern Ontario. The beauty and charm of this unspoiled resort area of lakes, villages and forests has made it a favourite vacation destination for both Canadians and Americans since the late 1800’s. We like to think that when you arrive on Fancy Free Island, you are transported in time back to a simpler and more peaceful world, where you can take time out from life to recharge and reconnect with loved ones in an environment of serenity and calm.
Fancy Free is a large cottage and comfortably holds its maximum capacity of eight guests at one time. All five bedrooms have views of the water and are prettily furnished with antiques, cozy duvets and high quality pillows. There are three double beds, each in their own room, one room with two twin beds and one room with a single twin bed.
The kitchen is large and well appointed with a beautiful view of the lawns, trees and lake from several windows. It has an eat-in table, an electric range, Swedish wood stove, refrigerator/freezer, hot and cold running water, tiled counter, stainless steel double sink, coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven, high quality stainless steel pots, abundant dishes, baking pans, etc. and a generous supply of cutlery/utensils.
The breakfast room features French doors, a large dining table with seating for eight, an antique hutch with china on display, and a full length set of windows overlooking the lake: a perfect view of water and islands.
An old-fashioned shady porch, looking over the lake, wraps around two walls of the cottage, furnished with chairs, a picnic table and a propane BBQ.
A 14-foot motorboat is included in the rental for travelling to the island and back. Our guests also enjoy the complimentary private use of two kayaks, three canoes, a swim raft and a Sunfish sailboat. Access from the mainland is from a private piece of land near the island. We provide complimentary private parking for up to two cars as well as a launch site for boats.
Fancy Free Island has three docks and sufficient water depth from the front dock to accommodate large boats. Swimming is good from anywhere off the island as the water is clear and clean.
Fancy Free is one hour by car north of Kingston and is easily reached from the Thousand Islands International Bridge.
